How to build up a cake tin collection

Even if you are not a baker, a few basic cake tins are always useful in your kitchen.

Springform ring tin 22cm: one of the most useful tins, this is ideal for most cakes, cheesecakes and mousses. With its spring-clip mechanism the cake is easily removed and can be left on the base for serving.

Swiss roll tins 23cm and 32cm: essential for making Swiss rolls and great for pizzas.

Loaf tin 23cm: in addition to bread these are great for terrines and pâtés.

Muffin tins with 12 holes or 6 large holes: the 12-hole tins are also great for Yorkshire puddings.

Square cake tin 20cm: these are ideal for fruit cakes and celebration cakes. If you love making brownies you should definitely have some of these in your kitchen.

Loose-bottomed tart tin 24cm: these are great for delicate pastry that is most likely to crumble when removed. They’re also ideal for tarts and quiches, which are usually served on the base of the tins.
