Beer bread sauce recipe

Have your beer and drink it too with this beer bread sauce. It is perfect for dunking a piece of freshly baked bread into.

Beer bread sauce

Serves: Makes 500ml
Cooking Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 400ml craft beer or substitute with milk
  • 4 black peppercorns
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 cloves
  • 100g fresh breadcrumbs
  • 50g butter
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 30ml (2 tbsp) fresh thyme leaves

Instructions

Place the onion, beer or milk, peppercorns, bay leaf and cloves in a small pot. Bring to a simmer and remove from heat. Set aside for 15 minutes.

Strain the liquid and add the breadcrumbs and butter. Simmer gently and season with salt, pepper and thyme. If the sauce is too thick, add a little milk.

Pour into a jug and serve immediately.
