Casual and trendy, the newly opened Belgian Triple brings some of the best beers and a dining experience from Belgium straight to Pretoria. Cheery yellow and black chairs complement the friendly and attentive all-round service. The restaurant generously provides tasters of all the beers on offer and our charming waitress was utterly obliging in delivering little glasses of anything that intrigued us. After sampling a few fruit beers, I opted for a Lindemans Pêcheresse (peach). Light, sweet and, in short, delicious – I’m officially a beer drinker. The food, too, is different and superbly cooked, with beer featuring in most of the recipes, including an alluring Kriek Lambic or cherry beer panna cotta. The cheese kroketten starter was a small masterpiece of crispy breadcrumbs and batter hiding a melty, gooey interior of cheese and sauce. My roasted pistachio, goat’s cheese and fig salad was worth braving the rain, while my partner’s brisket, braised for four hours in Lucifer Beer, got a thumbsup. I obviously could not leave without trying out dessert for my sake and yours (dear Reader), so I took on the chocolate mousse: heavy, dark and slightly tart – a sweet end to a perfect night.
