The Art Deco, ’20s-inspired interior at Café Del Sol Tre is light and cheery, spilling out casually onto 4th Avenue’s buzzing pavement. Coupled with the welcoming and fantastically dressed staff (braces and bowties, nogal!), heart-warming quotes adorning the walls, magical baubles overhead, Ritzy tunes and the luxurious velvet seating meant a top-drawer first impression. The name, Tre, denotes and celebrates the three founding family members, the third jewel in their Café del Sol crown and the triangular shapes associated with the chosen decor. We devoured salsa-dotted crisp yet tender haloumi, as well as “The Pan Alley” – a gorgeous pear, walnut, bacon and Gorgonzola stack. Starters were followed by the appetising and eye-catching “Piggly Wiggly” – succulent pork belly on sweet potato mash with a fresh apple and fennel slaw, roasted apple purée and honey-mustard cream; and the “Shroom Rapsody” (creamy, truffle-infused porcini risotto scattered with fresh Parmesan and peas). This, washed down with Prosecco and topped off with the perfect berry Pavlova, and we left already planning our next visit. Buon appetito! 36 4th Avenue, Parkhurst; 011-568-1063; cafedelsol.co.za.
