The Chef’s Table Restaurant in Durban

The Chef's Table

From the trendy industrial-chic decor and open kitchen where diners can watch their dishes being created, to the imaginative and beautifully plated fare, The Chef’s Table offers a culinary experience of note. As with many other quality establishments, the emphasis is on ethically produced, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. The menu, thus, changes daily and – our waiter tells us – everything is made in-house, the butter – the best ever! – included. I ordered cumin gnocchi and my partner chose roasted Moores-Pitt baby chicken with roast veggies, and thyme and lemon stuffing. The gnocchi was exceptional: every mouthful a different flavour and texture sensation – now a hint of cumin, apple or burnt butter; then a touch of crunchy macadamia granola or miso cauliflower. My partner couldn’t fault his dish, but one taste of my gnocchi made him wish he’d ordered that too. For dessert, my baked chocolate mousse was the ultimate finale and my partner’s lemon posset with lemon textures, a citrus symphony. 23 and 24 First Floor, Protea Mall, Chartwell Drive, Umhlanga Rocks; 031-001-0200.
