This chic new eatery on Nelson Mandela Square could be straight out of New York and has a prime position overlooking the celebrated statue. With a variety of seating options from outside to plush midnight blue velvet and tan leather booth seats indoors, it’s somewhere you’ll want to linger longer. The entrance frames a rose-hued brass bar with a marble countertop, leading to the dining area where orchid pots hang from steel beams, extending into the open, warehouse-style ceiling. The finishes are luxurious with textures ranging from wood and marble to suede and sequins; the menu is as varied as the interior, with a selection to suit any palate: think burgers and grill options to tacos and salads. I kicked off with tapas – the focaccia board served with marinated feta and olive tapenade, and golden squid heads. I tucked into the famed flame-grilled Portuguese chicken, with distinctive flavours of garlic, lemon and chilli, and the prawn curry, which was brimming with fat, succulent prawns in a delicately spiced coconut sauce. I’ll gladly go back to sample their pasta selection and melanzane al forno.
