“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet at last, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?” “What’s for breakfast?” said Pooh. “What do you say, Piglet?” “I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet. Pooh nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the same thing,” he said. ― A.A. Milne
Inspired by a much-loved lady in the owner’s life, The Countess in Melville brings the authentic American smokehouse vibe to our Jozi-doorstep with its deliciously fresh and responsibly sourced, local ingredients used to prepare the most satisfying, artisanal meals. Having recently launched their breakfast menu, diners can look forward to a one-of-a-kind breakfast to start their day. Think classics like flap jacks (with a twist of bacon, seasonal fruit and a maple and butter sauce) or breakfast waffles (3 thick and crispy Belgian waffles filled with bacon and cheese, with roasted cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, 2 eggs and a sausage.
The French toast was undoubtedly my favourite breakfast option! 3 Slices of fresh, Ciabatta French toast with seasonal berry compote, bacon, brie cheese and grilled banana with crème fraîche and chives on the side. It’s best to come hungry when you choose this mouth-watering breakfast option.
Other breakfast options include the Breakfast Burger, Eggs Florentine or Benedict, Salmon Scramble Croissant, Vegetarian Breakfast (ciabatta, roasted cherry tomoatoes, mushrooms, avo, basil pesto and smoked cheese) and more.
The coffee, is in a word, fantastic! They source the green beans, roast and grind it in-house to ensure the perfect cup every time. For something a little different, and oh-so-refreshing, try the Cool Cucumber mocktail – cucumber juice, green apple, salt and lime. It’s perfect for a hot summer’s morning.
You will not find any processed foods in the kitchen. Everything is sourced local without all the added preservatives, MSG, artificial flavours or colours.
