Headed by chefs Trevor Steyn and Hilton Crous, this is a gorgeous, modern meets country-style restaurant on the Bitou River just outside Plettenberg Bay. Trevor worked under both Gordon Ramsay and Nigel Skinner and describes his style as ‘French-Anglaise’ and, while that might sound rather flamboyant, at Down to Earth they’re all about keeping it simple and fresh. The menu is small and unpretentious and, joyfully, so are the prices. Items include ‘the Bitou’, a crisp potato rosti topped with smoked salmon and free-range poached eggs, slow-roasted pork belly with home-made apple sauce and a modern take on the traditional beef Wellington. They also make a gorgeous range of artisanal breads, luscious baked tarts and sweet treats daily.
