Tucked away in the Magaliesburg, De Hoek Country Hotel is an idyllic retreat where you can truly get away from it all and indulge the senses.
De Hoek Country Hotel is nestled in a lush and peaceful setting on 385 hectares, only an hour’s drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, and 15km from the historic town of Heidelberg. Also known as the Stone House, it is the only five-star country hotel in the Magaliesburg area. The spacious hotel interior exudes a classic and refined ambience, which is perfectly complemented by the tranquillity of the surrounding countryside.
Swiss-born Michael Holenstein’s Verandah restaurant menu is influenced by Swiss French cuisine, and is beautifully prepared and presented. Michael trained in Switzerland and has worked in some of Johannesburg’s top restaurants, as well as at the renowned Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland. Michael is happy to accommodate guests who prefer a romantic dinner in the conservatory or supper in the grand Garden Pavilion, weather permitting.
The five-course candlelit dinner is exquisitely presented with silver service and includes a seafood trio of seared scallops on basmati rice, prawns with stir-fried vegetables and sautéed calamari with lemon butter. Aptly labelled “Try me”, one of the irresistible desserts is vanilla sponge rum baba and Savarin with peppered strawberries. There is an excellent selection of South African wine. High tea, served at 3:30pm, is equally impressive, with delicious treats like salmon mousse, a cheese board and to-die-for carrot cake. The food is a sublime taste experience and the menu is very well thought out.
There are 16 superior suites along the Magalies River and four executive suites in the main house, which was part of the original dwelling.
De Hoek Country Hotel is the ideal place to unwind and enjoy accommodation, food, service and location of the highest order. With all the hotel has to offer, it makes for the perfect romantic getaway or Sunday lunch venue.
