Chef James Diack, of Parkhurst’s Coobs, has recently opened his latest venture in Parktown North. Presented as a speakeasy and casual-dining restaurant, this cool, urban spot is already popular among local foodies and bookings are essential. As with Coobs, expect ingredients to be of the freshest quality, supplied by James’s family farm in the Magaliesburg. Dishes range from Southern American to Asian and are packed with James’s signature flair – like the slow-braised acorn-fed wild boar ragù with handcut pappardelle. To start, the pulled-pork tacos from his smoker are delicate, meaty and utterly delicious. For mains, you can indulge in anything from burgers to salads and butter-chicken curry atop the creamiest coconut rice to grace your palate. With bourbon or miso glaze, molasses-smoked and slow-cooked as just some of the dish descriptions, you might struggle to make a selection – meaning you’ll definitely be back for more! The wine list holds some local gems, like Ashbourne and Lismore, and there is also artisanal gin for the ‘in crowd’. And, if you have space, James’s famous churros with dulche de leche are a must.
