Rhubarb & Lime Cafe is an oasis off the main arterials in PE and is perfectly situated to caffeinate a waking city –something it does phenomenally with a signature brew of pure black gold and a full tray of steamy artisan breads. The café is a labyrinth of enclaves and hideaways – perfect for stolen minutes and meetings. The owners have refurbished a heritage home, creating an Art Deco meets New York patisserie vibe, tinged with old-school nostalgia. Boasting a menu that transitions smoothly from breakfast to lunch, its signature flatbread pizzas are a favourite and the burgers are hearty. But breakfast remains the raison d’être and it’s for this you should come: my choice was the decadent and distinctive Maverick: a ciabatta stack, layered with rocket and bacon and drizzled with creamy Hollandaise sauce and cracked black pepper.
