Fans of chef George Jardine and Jordan Wine Estate are sure to love his new fine-dining restaurant in the centre of historic Stellenbosch. The relaxed, enclosed courtyard and small, cosy space give it a comforting home-away-from-home ambience. The concise menu changes daily for lunch and dinner, and focuses on seasonal ingredients. The house salad of delectable Belgian endive with a Gorgonzola dressing, served on a wooden board, could kick-start your meal. Choose from three main courses – meat, fish or vegetarian, two desserts and a selection of proudly South African cheeses. The aged Chalmar sirloin, served with celeriac purée, creamed kale and roasted veal sweetbreads is memorable. And don’t dare miss out on the baked line-caught silvers fish alongside a soft Gruyère crust, accompanied by creamed spinach and confit garlic. The Valrhona chocolate terrine with summer berries and a white chocolate mousse, and the coconut panna cotta both hit the sweet spot!Jardine Restaurant, 1 Andringa Street, Stellenbosch. 021-886-5020. restaurantjardine.co.za.
