Fans of Restaurant Mosaic, easily one of SA’s most seamless, polished dining experience, might prick their ears up hearing that there is a new menu to be had. This is reason to book ahead, devote the better part of an afternoon, and go. And those who don’t know what I’m talking about might want to listen up too.
Entering Restaurant Mosaic at the Orient, 45 minutes from Johannesburg or Pretoria, is like entering another world, Alice through the looking glass style. In this Moroccan palace-like place of beauty, the service is flawless and slick, and the extent of the wine list flabbergasts. As for the food, it soars – exquisite, feminine, superbly judged, surprising, evolved, luxurious and deep. The autumn/winter degustation menu – Roots and Shoots – is new, comprising seven courses that will delight and amaze.
The menu is served currently, as Mosaic and the Orient close for their annual winter break 20 June to 9 July 2016, and will be served until end August. Restaurant Mosaic is celebrating their 10th anniversary this year and the celebrations menu will be divided into two main menus with seasonal changes within each menu during the period – starting on 1 September with the spring/summer menu and changing over to the autumn/winter menu in March 2017. Both menus will feature one dish from each year since the restaurant opened up to now. The special festive season menu for Christmas will still be served. Add on to that a connoisseur wine pairing from one of the best cellars South Africa boasts to round off the full gastronomic experience. And if you’re off the wagon, no problem. A separate menu of non-alcoholic infusions designed by chef Chantel Dartnall elevates each course.
Dining here is a quiet and romantic experience, the guests treated like royalty. Don’t let this one pass you by, even if it’s just once – it’s a once in a lifetime experience. Money well spent, and you’ll be eulogising about it for weeks.
