• On 30 March, The Pantry Market at Keyes will raise a glass for its one year birthday. To honour the milestone, the market has launched a campaign that not only celebrates top artisans in the food industry, but also, as is so important to Keyes Art Mile, gives back to the community.

    BIRTHDAY CAKE AUCTION

The Pantry Market, in collaboration with six local confectioners, bakers, and chocolatiers from renowned Rosebank restaurants, has approached each of them to contribute one of their signature creations to our Birthday Cake Auction.

In the lead-up to the market, these cakes will be auctioned off via our social media channels, and all of the proceeds will be donated to a charity in the Rosebank area.

    The six participating cake-makers are:

Honeybee Baker | Floral Enchantment Cake

Pretoria-based cake-maker, Melissa du Plessis, has donated her latest design, the exquisite Floral Enchantment Cake. It is a veritable work of art, embellished as it is with fine botanicals and luxury floral lollies.

The Food Goddess | Marvellous Meringue Cake

Lara Meter of The Food Goddess will create a decadent meringue pavlova cake for 20 people, laden with cream and seasonal fruit.

    Afrikoa | High Tea

Keyes Art Mile’s newest tenant, the sophisticated chocolate, coffee and bubbly bar, Afrikoa, will be donating an elegant high tea for 15 people. Think tarts, pastries, chocolates and more.

Oregano Patisserie | 2-Tier Bronzed Naked cake with macarons, foliage & flowers

Linden’s much-loved patisserie, Oregano, who are also vendors at The Pantry Market, are donating their signature bronzed naked cake. The gorgeous creation, which is laden with macarons, foliage and flowers, serves 25 guests.

    Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream| Ice-Cream Cake

The ever-innovative Paul Ballen has designed a decadent Trio Log Cake for the lucky bidder. Serving 20 people, this is a combination of layers of Salted Caramel Ice Cream, Milk Chocolate Ice Cream and Vietnamese Coffee Ice Cream with a Brownie core and Salted Caramel Sauce.

Tart Patisserie | Biscuit Stacked Cake

Baker extraordinaire, Scharlene Gower, of the Tart Patisserie will create a custom biscuit stacked cake for 15 people, which will be adorned with seasonal fruit, flowers and macarons, in a colour scheme and numbers or letters of your choice.

Visitors to the market will also be able to join in the celebrations with a bubbly and cake tasting on the day.

    THE PANTRY MARKET

The Pantry Market at Keyes is, where possible, a plastic-free zone, and visitors can bring their own baskets to fill with everything and anything needed for a wholesome, healthy home pantry. Think fresh farm eggs, delicious cheeses, artisanal breads, olive oil-soaked artichokes and olives, Italian-style charcuterie, fresh organic produce, whole grains, decadent pastries and more. Whether you’re looking for a long, lazy harvest table lunch, a wholesome midweek bowl or a decadent treat, the Pantry Market at Keyes has you covered.

As always, there will be live music and kids activities at The Pantry Market. Chocolate, coffee and champagne will be served at AFRIKOA Café, and breakfast and lunch will be available from the several Keyes Art Mile restaurants, including Momo Kuro, BGR, MIX at MESH Club, Milk Bar and Marble.

True Design (Kartell, Moroso and Cassina), Okapi and Anatomy will be open for shopping as well as the four resident art galleries – SMAC, TMRW, Everard Read and CIRCA.

The Pantry Market takes place on the last Saturday of every month in and around The Trumpet on Keyes – 21 Keyes Avenue, Rosebank, Johannesburg.

The March edition is on Saturday 30 March, from 9am-2pm.
