• Homemade pumpkin spice latte

    The pumpkin spice latte has been around for years now, and it has become synonymous with the season leading up to Christmas. Even though we are in the Southern hemisphere and are experiencing the lead-up to summer, October is still the month of pumpkin spice.

    For when you want to save a few bucks by making your coffee at home, or if your local coffee shop doesn’t serve this seasonal favourite, here’s a recipe for how to make a pumpkin spice latte DIY style.

    Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

    Serves: 1

    Ingredients

    • Pumpkin Pie Spice
    • 3 tbsp ground cinnamon
    • 2 tsp ground ginger
    • 2 tsp ground nutmeg
    • 1 tsp allspice
    • 1 tsp ground cloves
    • Pumpkin Syrup
    • 2 cups water
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice
    • 4 tbsp pumpkin puree
    • Pumpkin Spice Latte
    • 1 cup milk of choice
    • 1 shot of espresso
    • whipped cream
    • pumpkin spice (garnish)

    Instructions

    Pumpkin Syrup

    1. Combine sugar and water in a pan and bring to a simmer.

    2. When sugar is dissolved, add the pumpkin pie spice and the pumpkin puree and mix well. Let simmer for 20 minutes.

    3. Remove from the heat and strain to remove any solids.

    Pumpkin Spice Latte

    1. In a coffee mug, add 3 tablespoons of pumpkin syrup then add hot coffee and stir until incorporated.

    2. Froth milk, then gently pour over coffee and syrup mixture.

    3. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice. Enjoy!
