A beloved staple in the Mother City’s food scene, Damascus Restaurant has announced that it will temporarily close its doors as it searches for a new premises.
The popular Sea Point eatery shared the emotional news with followers on Instagram, revealing that it has been given notice to vacate its current space. Its final trading day at the current premises will be 24 May.
For many Capetonians, Damascus restaurant has become far more than just a place to grab a meal. Known for its comforting Middle Eastern flavours, warm hospitality, and buzzing atmosphere, the restaurant has built a loyal following over the years and cemented itself as a favourite in Cape Town’s vibrant food scene.
In a heartfelt statement shared online, the team wrote:
“Damascus was never just a restaurant — it was built around people, memories, laughter, and community. Your support over the years means more to us than words can explain.”
The restaurant also reassured supporters that this is not a permanent goodbye, but rather a temporary pause while they search for a new home in Sea Point or nearby areas.
The team has called on the public to assist with any leads on available premises, adding that they remain hopeful about what comes next.
“This is not goodbye — only a temporary chapter before Damascus rises again, inshaAllah,” the statement concluded.
As one of Cape Town’s much-loved dining spots, the temporary closure of Damascus restaurant marks the end of an era for many loyal patrons, but if the response from the community is anything to go by, its next chapter may be eagerly awaited.
For now, fans still have a few days left to visit the restaurant before its temporary closure on 24 May.
