    The Master Origin collection comes from 5 different countries, each bringing their own unique taste and aroma to the coffee range. These coffees originate from Indonesia, Ethiopia, India, Nicaragua and Colombia.

     

    1. All about flavour

    The Master Origin range is distinctive as each coffee has a unique flavour from their respective countries:

    Indonesia

    Flavour profile: Rich & Woody

    The constant humidity in Sumatra has led farmers to hull the beans when still wet, creating a distinctly rich, velvety texture and wild, woody taste.

     

    Ethiopia

    Flavour profile: Flowery & Bright

    Drying whole coffee cherries in the highland sun cultivates delicate fruity flavours.

     

    India

    Flavour profile: Intense & Spicy

    The powerful wet monsoon winds sweep into India’s Malabar coasts for months. Their partner farmers harness their power to cultivate a coffee of incredible intensity.

     

    Nicaragua

    Flavour profile: Sweet & Harmonious

    In the highland vales of Nicaragua, the black honey coffee is hand raked every hour under the hot sun to absorb the sweet flavours from its fruit.

     

    Colombia

    Flavour profile: Fruity & Vibrant

    The coffee is left to mature on the branch much later and, with each new day that dawns, each individual cherry must be assessed and picked only if it’s perfectly ready.

     

    1. Following processes

    To get the unique and delicious flavours of the Master Origin range, each country has their very own process in order to get the best taste possible. This is how each country makes their Nespresso Master Origin coffee:

     

    Ethiopia Dry Processing: the coffee beans had a meticulous raking every hour by hand to ensure even drying.

    Colombia Late Harvest: the typical harvest time was pushed to the limit – each coffee cherry was left on the tree, risking fermentation, until it was exactly the right shade of deep purple to be picked.

    Indonesia Wet-Hulled: farmers used a traditional and exceptionally local wet-hulling method.

    Nicaragua Black Honey: a sweet approach was taken, using the ‘black honey’ method which involves leaving the coffee bean in its natural fruit layer whilst it is drying to allow the bean to soak up the natural sugars.

    India Monsoon: months of monsoonal winds repeatedly swell and dry the beans. It mimics the journey it used to take when sailing to Europe in the 19th Century.
