• Celebrity chefs introduce tastes of the world with innovative campaign

The public can now be transported to another country without even leaving their city with the latest offering from Col’Cacchio Pizzeria. Being the first to follow international trends right here in South Africa, Col’Cacchio added an Indian vs Cape Malay pizza option to their menu with the influence of Indian tastemaker Naqiyah Mayat and Cape Malay Queen, Fatima Sydow.

“It’s about leading the way and being innovative in international flavour trends, while still celebrating our local heritage,” said Kinga Baranowska, co-founder of Col’Cacchio Pizzeria.

The two celebrity chefs are equally excited about the challenge of combining the flavours of their heritage with pizza.

“I am honoured to partner with Col’Cacchio Pizzeria in taking South Africans on a flavour journey to my ancestral heritage with the taste of sweet and sour, slow-cooked meat and bay leaves which all result in a true Cape Malay flavour explosion,” Fatima Sydow, Cape Malay cooking queen and cookbook author, said.

A big part of the Indian v Cape Malay pizza initiative is that each celebrity chef selected an organisation to give back to and make a difference.

With every Denning pizza from Sydow sold, R5 will be donated to CANSA for reasons very close to her own heart. Sydow is currently battling cancer and wants to make this a very powerful partnership.

For Naqiyah Mayat, cookbook author, the Travel the World campaign is the perfect opportunity to showcase Indian cuisine with a twist. “I love marrying concepts and with the Keema pizza I brought together Indian flavours and spices – with a Turkish influence. It presents lamb mince with cucumber raita and lots and lots of coriander,” Mayat said.

With every Keema pizza from Mayat sold, R5 will be donated to Gift of the Givers in support of humanitarian aid to disaster areas.

    * With consumers looking for healthier options, Col’Cacchio offers low carb and wheat free base substitutions.

    * It is believed that traditional Indian food can also have several health benefits, like immune support. Indian cuisine dates back over 5000 years with various traditions, religions and cultures that influence its food.

    * Cape Malay is a culture unique to Cape Town, South Africa. Malaysian settlers influenced the cuisine, culture and traditions of the Cape without taking away from its local roots, thereby forming the beautifully unique heritage of many Capetonians. This cuisine entails aromatic stews and curries, lamb and fish, sosaties (kebabs), pickled vegetables, as well as a host of spicy pastries.

    * CANSA celebrated their 90th Anniversary in 2021. According to Elize Joubert, head of CANSA, the organisation has provided counselling to more than 200 000 people over the past 10 years and continues to help up to 1 000 per month through telephone and online services.

    * The Gift of the Givers Foundation is the largest disaster response non-governmental organisation of African origin on the African continent. Their objective is to bring hope and restore dignity to the most vulnerable. They have contributed R3.8 billion in aid in 45 countries over 29 years.
