• Nestled in the Agterkliphoogte Valley lies Windfall, a small boutique wine farm and one of South Africa’s best kept secrets. Windfall took its name from South African cricketing legend, Eddie Barlow, who noticed the mist cascading down the surrounding mountains of Robertson, or “The Valley of Wine and Roses” as it’s come to be known.

Eddie Barlow bought Windfall as Spesbona from Phillip Lourens and later sold it to prominent KZN property developer, Robert Alexander, who has rejuvenated Windfall by restoring dams, replanting vineyards, unearthing new boreholes and establishing Windfall’s boutique cellar. Kobus van der Merwe brings a wealth of experience to his role as winemaker on Windfall with 30 years in the industry, complemented by his passion for winemaking, his zeal for excellence and his determination to discover new, elegant tastes.

Kibali – this full bodied red wine is a blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mouvedre and Grenache.  The wine is smooth with toasted oak and cedar flavours which marries beautifully with the hints of Cape Flora.  Pairs perfectly with hearty winter dishes and spicy foods.

2016 Pinot Noir – medium bodied wine with floral notes and hints of fynbos.  Think ripe red berry flavours that complement dishes such as cheese platters, pasta dishes and seafood.

The Hunter, 7 year old Potstill brandy – handpicked from selected Chenin Blanc and slowly fermented to produce a base wine with nuances of green apple, citrus and green pea undertones.  Our base wine was slowly distilled in the silence of the long cold winter nights and then matured in the finest barrels for seven long years.  This has nurtured the finest tastes of pear, peach, figs, citrus peel and hints of Cape Flora which one can identify on the farm.

Available from the online shop, the wines retail for approximately R220 and R120 respectively and the brandy for R850.  www.windfallwine.co.za.
