Scooters Pizza has made the ultimate comeback after ghosting SA for almost a decade, with a relaunch on Tuesday, 21 October, including their 39-minute delivery guarantee!
From local favourite to national phenomenon, Juan Engelbrecht (former Master Franchisor, Western Cape) is leading this revival. Scooters Pizza has officially launched on Tuesday, 21 October, filling the streets of Melville with that same cheesy smell we remember from years past.
The franchise first fired up its ovens back in 2000, when the Gonzaga family de-franchised three Kwa-Zulu Natal stores, launching a fresher, faster, and fearless brand. By 2010, Scooters Pizza dominated Joburg and the Western Cape with 100 outlets and racked up FASA accolades as one of SA’s fastest-growing franchises.
But what happened? In 2014, Taste Holdings signed a master agreement to roll out the well-known franchise Domino’s across Southern Africa, inviting Scooters and St Elmo’s franchise to convert. This strategic shift sadly led to Scooters’ retirement.
However, fans never gave up and kept Scooters Pizza’s spirit alive, from deep-dive stories on YouTube to asking for it to make a comeback across social media platforms. And luckily for us, franchise veteran Juan Engelbrecht listened. He relaunched Scooters Pizza through 1st Choice Business Brokers & Franchising to bring the legend back, this time smarter, faster, and fairer for owners. He says, “People have always asked when Scooters would return. The appetite for a proudly South African pizza brand is still there, and we’re ready to deliver again, literally.”
