• With icy temperatures and fierce winds giving South Africans a foretaste of what’s in store for winter, many people find comfort inside their cosy homes, while their plants are exposed to the cold outside. Fortunately, there are indoor plants that thrive during the shivering season, bringing warmth and boosting energy while temperatures drop.

According to JJ Nursery Garden Centre, choosing the right indoor plants for winter is important for maintaining a vibrant indoor garden. The nursery listed the top 10 plants to bring life inside your home this winter.

    1. Peace lilies

These favourites are hardy plants that can handle lower light conditions, making them ideal for the harsh and daylight-scarce winter months. Peace lilies can also remove toxins (for example, ammonia and formaldehyde) from indoor environments.

    2. Snake plants

Popular for their hardiness and striking appearance, snake plants are highly drought-tolerant, require minimal watering, and also help improve indoor air quality.

    3. Rubber plants

The nursery notes that rubber plants prefer bright, indirect light, while tolerating lower light conditions. Just like peace lilies and snake plants, rubber plants are great at removing toxins from the air.
