• While many professional cleaners will argue that the only way to keep something clean is to clean it regularly, these tips will help keep your shower cleaner for longer. And prolong the time you’ll need to spend using up your elbow grease, even reducing the time it takes to clean the shower the next time.

    1. Keep a squegee close by

Squeegees aren’t only made for drying windows. They’re also perfect for wiping down and drying your shower after each use. Not only will this prevent soap scum and hard-water stains from building up, but it also helps your shower dry faster – reducing the risk of mould and mildew growth. All you simply have to do is wipe down the shower surface (walls and windows) after each shower, which only takes a few minutes (and is super satisfying), but helps prolong the need for a deep-clean.

And no, you shouldn’t be buying those squeegees with long handles used to clean car windows. There are many small squeegees (with suction cups to stick to the wall) that are perfect for keeping in the shower without looking odd or taking up too much space.

    2. Leave-on shower spray

Using a daily leave-on shower spray also prolongs the time between cleans. It helps break down soap scum and prevent any stubborn stains (like rust or hard water) from setting. While there are many daily shower sprays on the market, you can make your own solution with items you probably already have stocked in your pantry. Simply combine 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol and a few drops of liquid dish soap. Pour this solution into a spray bottle and mist the surface of the shower after each use. No need to wipe it away or rinse – the shower will take care of that the next time you use it!

    3. Remove old items

Keeping empty bottles of shampoo, conditioner, scrubs and washes in the shower might be what’s causing the excess grime in the first place. Better yet, place all bottles and other accessories on shelves, leaving some space between them for air circulation. This ensures the surfaces of the shower can dry completely, reducing the amount of mould, mildew and soap scum that builds up after each shower.
