• Cape Town’s bar scene just got a thrilling upgrade with Barcadia, a retro-inspired bar and arcade that combines classic arcade games, modern gaming and a tempting drinks menu – all without costing a dime to enter or play. Tucked away at 62 Hout Street, Barcadia is the city’s first arcade bar, offering a unique experience in the city’s nightlife scene.

Stepping inside, you’re instantly transported to a world of nostalgia, with a checkered pattern floor and custom-made neon signs along the walls. You might recognise iconic characters like Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Barcadia doesn’t just rely on classic aesthetics; it also features a number of gaming options. Retro gaming consoles are on display and for those seeking a more modern experience, a PlayStation 5 is hooked up to a TV behind the bar.

The heart of Barcadia lies in its selection of original arcade game machines, some dating back 30 years. The lineup includes timeless classics such as Rave Racer, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Terminator 2 and Tekken 3.

And, of course, no arcade is complete without the iconic Pac-Man. The games are rotated to ensure fresh options for players, while the main attraction, the Stern KISS Pinball machine, remains a permanent fixture.

While Barcadia doesn’t serve food yet, you can enjoy freshly made popcorn, a perfect companion to the gaming action.

The drinks menu offers a range of options, from 1-litre beer jugs to a selection of draught beers on tap. For non-alcoholic refreshments, you can choose from various cooldrinks like lemonade, coke, diet coke or tonic, all priced at an affordable R10. Keep in mind that this gaming paradise is exclusively for those aged 21 and older.
