• The celebrated restaurant trio of Ōku, Yama and Eleven are giving food lovers even more reason to head to the winelands this autumn. Known for their thoughtful approach to fine yet accessible dining, the group is ushering in a fresh chapter with a series of à la carte offerings — all designed to let guests curate their own culinary experience.

It started with Eleven’s à la carte debut earlier this year, then followed by Yama’s expanded menu of warm dishes to sit alongside their signature sushi. Now, Ōku joins the movement with an à la carte lunch menu to complement its ever-popular Kaiseki set menu.

“The response has been incredible,” says chef-proprietor Ryan Shell. “We’ve always focused on seasonal ingredients, but we also want to be in tune with how people want to dine. These menus give guests more freedom, while keeping the soul of each restaurant intact.”

    ELEVEN

Global flavours meet local charm at Eleven, a contemporary space on Franschhoek’s high street. Since opening in August 2023, the restaurant has earned a loyal following — and its new à la carte menu is the perfect excuse to return. Standouts include Franschhoek trout carpaccio with chilli, ginger and tozazu; truffle falafel with almond and verjuice; and pork agnolotti served napolitana-style with pancetta and beurre noisette. Pair with comforting sides like parmesan risotto or Hasselback potatoes, then settle in by the fire — or try the full tasting menu for the full experience.

    ŌKU

Rooted in Japanese tradition and the quiet spirituality of Southeast Asia, Ōku is refined, serene and utterly transportive. The new à la carte lunch menu brings a relaxed energy to the space, while keeping the craftsmanship and detail Ōku is known for. Think Wagyu beef broth with Japanese marrow toast, mushroom gyoza with truffle and sesame miso, and coriander-crusted springbok with miso rice purée and black garlic jus. It’s comfort food, elevated — and ideal for the cooler season. Don’t miss the sake tastings or the signature Kaiseki menu if you’re after something special.

    YAMA

Yama Asian Eatery remains the go-to for sushi lovers in Franschhoek — but its warming, flavour-packed hot menu is what autumn dreams are made of. Cosy up in the courtyard or grab a seat inside and order the Yama ramen, coconut-laced Zenzai broth with tofu, or the ever-popular Yakiniku and donburi bowls. Their bao buns are a must, and the kids’ menu makes it a family-friendly favourite. Quick lunch or slow dinner — the choice is yours.
