• Churros are traditionally dipped into hot chocolate in winter, but they are just as good served hot with honey and cinnamon sugar… even in summer! Serve with dessert wine.

    Churros

    Serves: 4 - 6
    Cooking Time: 20 mins

    Ingredients

    • 500ml (2 cups) water
    • 5ml (1 tsp) salt
    • 120g (1 cup) cake flour, sifted
    • oil, for frying
    • sugar, to dust
    • cinnamon, to dust

    Instructions

    1

Pour the water in a pot, stir in the salt and bring to the boil. Once it starts to boil, pour in the flour and mix with a wooden spoon over a medium heat until an even dough is formed.

    2

Remove from the heat and continue to work the dough with the wooden spoon. When the dough is completely smooth, spoon it into a piping bag with a large star nozzle.

    3

In a large pot heat the oil to very hot (190°C if you’re using a sugar thermometer). Drop in strips of dough to form loops.

    4

Cook as many loops as will fit without touching each other. Cook until golden, about 3 – 4 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain in a colander.

    5

Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, and serve hot.
