With IMBO’s Pearl Barley and IMBO Pearl Wheat grabbing respectively 1st and 2nd Gold for Whole Grains in the Food & Home Awards 2025, we cannot stop boasting about the advantages of including the entire IMBO product range in your daily food plan.
The cherry, or shall we say “bean” on top of these accolades, is the endorsement of three of South Africa’s health advocacies of all IMBO beans, dried peas, lentils, pearl barley, pearl wheat, soup mix, samp and beans and popcorn.
First is the HEART MARK of the South African Heart and Stroke Foundation. The HEART MARK endorsement program is part of ongoing efforts by the HSFSA to reduce the number of deaths in South Africa from preventable heart disease and strokes. The endorsement program forms part of a health-enabling environment offering consumers a tool that makes choosing healthier foods easier.
Products carrying the HEART MARK are guaranteed to be lower in salt, lower in sugar, lower in saturated fats, and higher in fibre. This makes it the best choice for consumers and the most effective way to maintain a healthy and balanced diet.
The 2nd endorsement is that of the CANSA Seal of Recognition, which means every pack now carries the CANSA Smart Choice Seal. This means that these products may assist in reducing the risk of cancer and are free from all known carcinogens, toxins, hormones and/or endocrine disruptors.
The third feather in the IMBO hat is that of the Glycemic Index Foundation. The GI index ranks foods based on their immediate effect on blood glucose levels.
