• Women’s Month Sunday Lunch Series celebrates Cape Town’s Women in Food and Wine

This Women’s Month, Upper Union and Reverie Social Table will come together for an intimate Sunday lunch collaboration celebrating women at the table, in the kitchen and in the cellar. Hosted by Upper Union’s chef Amori Burger and Reverie Social Table’s chef Julia Hattingh, the lunch series will take place over four Sundays in August, with each lunch featuring a three-course menu (with a few surprise extras) and a female winemaker pouring wines selected for the occasion.

Bringing together two Cape Town restaurants with distinct yet complementary approaches to hospitality, the series is designed as a convivial Women’s Month celebration of food, wine and conversation. With just 16 seats available at each lunch, guests can expect a generous, close-up dining experience shaped by seasonal cooking. The three-course menu includes signature-style dishes from each kitchen alongside collaborative plates created especially for the occasion, with freshly baked bread and a friandise offered as generous additional touches, and every lunch accompanied by wines poured and introduced by a featured female winemaker.

The lunches will take place on:

Upper Union – Chef Amori Burger (Jan Ras Photography)

Located at 3 Upper Union Street in Cape Town, Upper Union is known for bold, globally inspired dishes designed to be shared, with a dining style that encourages guests to gather around the table, connect and enjoy plentiful plates layered with vibrant flavours, seasonal produce and carefully considered South African wines; executive chef Amori Burger’s cooking is rooted in the warmth of hosting Sunday lunch at home, inspired by the women in her family and driven by a pursuit of the “perfect bite”, resulting in food that is generous, textured and flavour-forward, often balancing spice, acidity and bold combinations in a way that feels both polished and deeply personal.

Julia Hattingh – Reverie Social Club (Charlotte Turner Photography)

Reverie Social Table, based in Observatory, is one of Cape Town’s most distinctive dining experiences: a communal table built around five courses, local wine and the joy of conversation. Chef-owner Julia Hattingh’s menus focus on sustainable, hyper-seasonal produce and are composed to complement wines from local producers, bringing the tasting room into the city in an intimate dinner-party setting; having opened Reverie in 2015, Hattingh has built the restaurant around connection between guests, growers, winemakers and the seasons, and for this collaboration brings Reverie’s social-table spirit to Sunday lunch, pairing refined yet soulful cooking with a sense of generosity and shared discovery.
