2023 was a brilliant year for Stellenbosch’s Kleine Zalze Wines in terms of achievements in local and international wine competitions.
It is rare to see one winery shine on the South African and international stage with so many diverse wines. From Chenin Blanc to Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc to Shiraz, Chardonnay to Grenache., Kleine Zalze delivered one champion after another.
According to RJ Botha, Kleine Zalze’s winemaker, the reason for this is focus. ‘Kleine Zalze has access to exceptional terroir areas in Stellenbosch and other parts of the winelands, each terroir suitable for its specific grape variety. There is no secret to making good wines from these diverse cultivars and terroir areas other than understanding each cultivar and ensuring grapes are treated individually to bring out their qualities.
Kleine Zalze is open for wine tasting from Monday to Saturday, 9 am – 5.30 pm, and on Sundays and Public Holidays, 11 am – 5.30 pm.
