• Are you a fan of craft beer, wine, or gin? If so, Distillers & Union in Cape Town is a must-visit destination.

This working distillery offers a unique experience that allows you to create your own bespoke gin, complete with a customised label and bottle.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. You can also tour the distillery, learn about the history of gin-making and experience the art of distilling your own gin.

The guided experience starts with a Steelworks cocktail and a plate of snacks, followed by a lesson in gin-making by Simon von Witt, the creator of 5 Pence tonic water and non-alcoholic G&T called James Benson.

Next, you get to pick and choose from an array of botanicals and flavours to create your own unique gin recipe.

Once you’ve chosen your ingredients and measured them with a syringe, you can watch as your creation is distilled in a mini copper gin still.

And the best part? You get to design your own label and choose your preferred alcohol percentage and colour for your special gin.

While you’re at Distillers & Union, don’t forget to check out Sweet River Brewery, also on-site.

This brewery offers a guided and informative beer-tasting experience that consists of four 200ml Sweet River Brewery beers, one 500ml beer of your choice, and one wood-fired pizza.

The brewery aims to highlight the uniqueness of local flora, water and joie de vivre while providing traditional wood-fired pizzas to satisfy your hunger.

Distillers & Union offers regular gin-making and gin and beer-tasting events on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. And if you’re planning a group event, consider scheduling it on a weekend for the full 2-hour experience, which includes a tour of the working distillery.
