• Feeling anxious? Then consider eating certain foods to relieve the anxiety naturally!

Many people can feel overwhelmed at some stage of their life with feelings of tension, nervousness and fear for the worst.

Medical News Today defines anxiety as a feeling of worry, unease, or nervousness that varies from mild to severe. Anxiety is a typical reaction to stress and new situations for most people.

According to statistics released by the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG), as many as one in six South Africans suffer from anxiety, depression or substance-use problems (and this does not include more serious conditions such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia).

Healthline suggests these foods that may help ease your anxiety:

    Salmon

Salmon may be beneficial for easing your anxiety. Salmon contains nutrients that are beneficial for brain health, including vitamin D and the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

These nutrients may help regulate the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, which can have calming and relaxing properties.

    Dark chocolate

Incorporating some dark chocolate into your diet may also help ease anxiety.

Dark chocolate contains flavonols, such as epicatechin and catechin, which are plant compounds that act as antioxidants.

According to research, dark chocolate’s role in brain health may simply be due to its taste, which can be comforting for those with mood disorders.
