Canola oil is very high in omega-3 – an essential fatty acid that your body can only get through dietary intake. In 2020, a study in the South African Medical Journal confirmed that plant-based omega-3 fatty acids, found in oils like Canola, may have a protective role against developing heart disease. Research has also shown that plant-based omega-3, found in oils such as canola oil, are more anti-inflammatory and have other heart-healthy properties such as thinning the blood.

In addition, too much omega-6 fatty acids and a very high omega-6 to omega-3 ratio can promote a higher level of inflammation, which can lead to the development of many lifestyle diseases. However, increased levels of omega-3 fatty acids and a low omega-6 to omega-3 ratio – such as that found in canola oil – helps to prevent these diseases.
