What if the world’s greatest steak tasting wasn’t about deciding which cut you like best, but discovering why every exceptional steak tells a different story?
On Friday, 24 July 2026, premium beef educator Thelma Maritz, founder of Die Vleismeisie, will host an intimate Steak & Wine Experience at Cellar Collective Wine Bar in Woodstock, in an evening designed to challenge everything guests thought they knew about steak.
Far more than a traditional dinner, the experience takes guests on a guided exploration of premium beef through three thoughtfully curated tasting courses, each showcasing a different combination of breed, cut and ageing method.
Throughout the evening, guests will compare renowned breeds including Black Angus, Simmentaler and Chianina, discover the remarkable differences between wet-aged and dry-aged beef, and learn how marbling, muscle structure and craftsmanship influence flavour, tenderness and texture.
Every course is accompanied by a carefully selected wine pairing, chosen not simply to complement the steak but to transform it. Guests will experience how different wines can soften tannins, enhance marbling, elevate richness and reveal entirely new dimensions within the same cut of beef.
The goal isn’t simply to serve exceptional steak,” says Maritz. “It’s to help people understand why exceptional steak tastes the way it does. Once you begin comparing breeds, ageing methods and pairings side by side, you realise that no two great steaks are ever quite the same.”
Hosted inside Cellar Collective’s intimate wine bar, the evening has been intentionally limited to 30 guests, creating an atmosphere that encourages conversation, discovery and shared appreciation around the table.
