• Avon Justine invites women to focus on their breast health during October and join the iThemba Walkathon.

Did you know that 1 in 26 South African women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime?

This is a frightening statistic, but there are steps that you can take to lessen your chance of getting breast cancer by making certain healthy lifestyle changes. One of the changes you can start with is exercising.

Lifestyle factors can lower your risk of breast cancer

A 2018 global study of 19 000 respondents from various countries showed that there is low awareness among woman of the fact that some lifestyle factors could prevent breast cancer.

For example, 64% of women weren’t aware that regular exercise – including walking – could help to lower the risk of developing breast cancer.
