• BBC Lifestyle will premiere the fourth season of South Africa’s reality baking series, “The Great South African Bake Off”, a show that features amateur bakers competing for the title of South Africa’s best baker.

Casting for Season 4 is now open and the search for 12 of the country’s best amateur bakers has begun.

If you are not familiar with the show, here’s a quick rundown:

Twelve amateur bakers are selected from across the country to participate in the reality competition series. The bakers compete in weekly competitions for eight weeks until one is crowned “South Africa’s Best Amateur Baker.”

The bakers are presented with different baking disciplines each week and three tasks per episode that they must master in order to progress to the next level. The least successful baker goes home each week.

The three weekly baking tasks are:

    A Signature Bake:

During this challenge, bakers get to show off their signature delights and what they’re known for.

    A Technical Bake:

The bakers are given one basic recipe, with the same ingredients and instructions, and judged on the finished product.

    A Showstopper Bake:

The bakers are able to showcase their skills and talent in the more complex challenge of this task, which calls for a professional standard in taste and appearance.

You have until 29 January 2023 to enter if you think you have what it takes to be South Africa’s next best amateur baker.

The show offers nail-biting entertainment that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats rooting for their favourite baker.
