• Esona is a boutique winery, producing limited release wine from single vineyards nestled beside the Breede River in the Robertson Wine Valley.

Husband Rowan, and wife Caryl, found this 17 hectare jewel, situated between Robertson and Bonnievale as a place of relaxation from the busy city life. As all great things take time they developed this once before vegetable farm into nine hectares of vines in 2004 and bottled and released the first Esona wine in 2010. The farm is maintained by a small team that knows every vine through their hand-picking of the grapes.  The wine is crafted to capture the unique tastes of Esona’s grapes that nature has provided.

Our Old Cellar has been reconstructed into a tasting venue with an underground cellar where we offer a ‘Taste-the-Difference’ wine experience consisting of tasting two vintages of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Shiraz served in Riedel glasses and then paired with chocolate and local preserves. Upstairs, Caryl’s deli offers a small but enticing menu that focuses on simple flavours using local produce that complements our wine range. It also has a large deck surrounded by vineyards and overlooking the Breede River.

Frankly My Dear – Pinot Noir Blanc de Noir – with delightful candies on the nose, a fresh palate and a lengthy aftertaste that lingers like a sunny summer afternoon.  Perfectly balanced with strong notes of irreverence, a bouquet of devil-may-care and a healthy hint of don’t-give-a-damn.

Chardonnay 2013 – there is a subtle tropical spiciness alongside the full bodied flavours of this bold and elegant wine.  Wonderful aging potential for the next 5 to 6 years.

Shiraz 2013 – a slight vanilla bean toastiness is superbly integrated with savoury flavours of preserved prunes.
