Bulgogi recipe

Bulgogi is a very popular Korean dish. It’s most likely so beloved because of the tender meat and succulent sauce. Easy to make and absolutely mouthwatering!

Bulgogi ( marinated beef sirloin)

Serves: 4 – 6
Cooking Time: 15 mins + 1 – 2 hrs to marinate

Ingredients

  • 500g beef sirloin or tenderloin, thinly sliced
  • 125ml (½ cup) soya sauce
  • 10ml (2 tsp) sesame oil
  • 15ml (1 tbsp) dark brown sugar
  • 10ml (2 tsp) honey
  • 1 red chilli, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, grated
  • 4cm fresh ginger, grated
  • 5ml (1 tsp) crushed peppercorns
  • lettuce leaves, to serve
  • condiments, to serve

Instructions

1

Combine the thinly sliced beef, soya sauce, sesame oil, sugar, honey, chilli, garlic, ginger and pepper in a large bowl. Cover and refrigerate for 1 – 2 hours.

2

Remove from fridge 5 minutes before grilling. Remove excess marinade and place the meat on a platter on the table for grilling.

3

Grill the meat for 1 – 2 minutes on each side until cooked through and slightly charred and sticky.

4

Place in a lettuce leaf and add your choice of condiments.

Notes

A different take on bulgogi would be to simply change the cut of beef. Galbi or beef short ribs, are cut into small chunks and marinated in the same sticky sauce.
