On Saturday, 22 August 2026, acclaimed cookbook author and food stylist Elsa van der Nest will host A Day with Elsa, an intimate olive oil masterclass at her beautiful Constantia home. Curated in partnership with Rio Largo Extra Virgin Olive Oil, the experience invites guests to slow down, savour exceptional food and discover how quality ingredients can transform everyday cooking.
More than a traditional cooking class, the day has been designed as a complete culinary experience. Guests will begin with a sparkling welcome and seasonal bites before embarking on a guided olive oil tasting featuring Rio Largo’s award-winning extra virgin olive oils. Learning how to taste olive oil like a professional offers a new appreciation for its flavour, aroma and versatility in the kitchen.
From there, Elsa will present a three-hour cooking demonstration, sharing her signature approach to creating elegant dishes using simple, seasonal ingredients. Along the way, she’ll offer practical cooking tips, styling advice and entertaining inspiration that home cooks can easily recreate in their own kitchens.
The menu celebrates fresh flavours and the versatility of extra virgin olive oil. Guests can look forward to herb-crusted rack of lamb, olive oil creamed potatoes with dill, heirloom beetroot with lime leaf, ginger and yoghurt dressing, whole roasted cauliflower with rose harissa and chilli butter, and a fragrant lemon olive oil cake to finish. A leisurely shared lunch gives everyone a chance to enjoy the dishes together and connect with fellow food lovers.
The masterclass runs from 9:30 am to 3 pm and costs R1 650 per person, including refreshments on arrival, the guided olive oil tasting, cooking demonstration and shared lunch.
