• Microfibre cloths are the ultimate workhorses in any cleaning basket. While they help us absorb spills, dry shower doors, or polish wooden furniture, they eventually need replacing.

And after all that use, those old microfibre cloths still have some gusto left. Here are 5 ways to reuse microfibre cloths, giving them new life in and around your home.

5 Ways to reuse microfibre cloths

Before anything, deep clean the old microfibre cloths to remove any lingering odours, bacteria and debris.

    1. Mop pads

Since microfibre cloths are already designed to trap dust and dirt, used ones make the perfect fit for turning into reusable mop pads. Instead of buying disposable floor-cleaning pads every month, click old microfibre cloths in their place. If need be, you can cut them to size or sew a couple together.

    2. Pet towels

Old microfibre cloths are still absorbent and quick-drying, making them perfect for drying your pets after a wash or swim. You don’t need to sew anything; you can use them just as they are, but if you’re keen to, consider sewing a few cloths together to make a bigger pet towel. Better yet, many people have used the cloths to sew together a bath poncho for your furry kids.

    3. Reusable baby wipes

Instead of buying packs and packs of baby wipes, consider repurposing old microfibre cloths into makeshift reusable baby wipes. They’re soft and super absorbent, washable and best of all – quick-drying. If not for baby wipes, you can also use them as makeup wipes.

    4. Drawstring bags

While a sewing machine will make things go faster, all you need for this is thread and a needle. Stitch two cloths together into a simple pouch, add a drawstring, and you’re set. You can use them in place of disposable plastic bags to store anything from clothes, shoes, jewellery and other bits and bobs. Dried goods and other foodstuffs can also be stored in one.

    5. Microfibre scrunchies

The soft texture and absorbency of microfibre cloths make for the perfect scrunchie material – especially as a post-shower hair tie. It absorbs just enough moisture to dry your hair, but not so much that it leaves your hair frizzy. You could probably make one large scrunchie or two smaller scrunchies from one cloth.
