• As the home of the world’s first commercially bottled Pinotage – it comes as no surprise that celebrating International Pinotage Day at Lanzerac is a highlight on all Pinotage Lovers’ calendar each year.

But this year, in honour of the estate celebrating 60th year of producing Pinotage, Lanzerac will extend the festivities over the entire weekend and guests can expect a bigger and better setup than previous years.

On Saturday the 12th of October, International Pinotage Day, and Sunday the 13th the space in front of the estate’s Tasting Room & Deli will be transformed into an oenophile’s dream with tables for guests to relax and enjoy a perfect Wineland’s day out with friends and family amongst the picturesque Stellenbosch mountains. Whilst the usual tasting experiences, along with a unique Pinotage tasting, will provide guests with the opportunity to explore Lanzerac’s acclaimed wine range, the wine-tasting station will offer them the convenience to purchase their favourite Lanzerac wine to enjoy on the day or at home. The Lanzerac Pinotage tasting experience includes the Premium Pinotage Rosé 2019, Premium Pinotage 2017, flagship Pionier Pinotage 2017 as well as Keldermeester Versameling PROF 2017 and will be available exclusively over Pinotage weekend.

Various food stations will offer delicious Pinotage-inspired fare, created by the estate’s team of chefs, to be best relished under the leafy oak trees while listening to the cool sounds of Acoustic Element, who will perform on both days. The weekend’s food offerings will include braai favourites such as Pinotage Greek lamb burgers, glazed skaapstertjies, biltong spiced dry-aged sirloin and braai rib mac & cheese as well as various biltong and cheese platter’s to share.

On the Saturday morning Lanzerac’s wine making duo, Cellar Master, Wynand Lategan and Viticulturist, Danie Malherbe, will host a private Pinotage Tasting experience in the working wine cellar, providing guests with an in-depth knowledge of both the estate’s range of Pinotage wines, rich Pinotage pioneering heritage and vineyard practices pertaining to the Pinotage vines. The tasting will commence at 10:30 with tickets priced at R150 per person.

To ensure the weekend celebrations start on a high note, Pinotage lovers are invited to join both Lategan and Malherbe for a Pinotage & Tapas dinner on Friday 11 October, in the estate’s sophisticated Tasting Room. This informal yet informative dinner, priced at R300 per person, will provide guests the opportunity to interact with Lategan and Malherbe, while enjoying appetizing tapas, great Pinotage wines and the chance to mingle with fellow wine lovers.

For the entire Pinotage Weekend (11-13 October), Pinotage lovers will enjoy 20% discount on all three Lanzerac Pinotage wines (Premium Pinotage Rose 2019, Premium Pinotage 2017, Heritage Pionier Pinotage 2017), as well as the Keldermeester Versameling PROF 2017, from the Tasting Room & Deli. Those who are unable to attend the weekend’s festivities can are able to receive this incredible discount via Lanzerac’s online wine shop.

Entrance to both Pinotage Days (12-13 October) are free with the festivities commencing from 09:00 onwards.
