• Calling all vegans, ketoers, banters and the hungry. If it’s not already, Kanéla Café is about to become your new local favourite for all your plant-based and taste-bud desires.

From the moment you enter, the earthy look and feel of the café embraces you as if you’ve just stepped into the solace of Mother Nature’s arms. There’s ample seating all over, with cosy couches inside and an airy courtyard surrounding a large stone water fountain.

Despite being in the bustling centre of Sea Point, it’s difficult to believe you’re only a pavement away from the busy main road from within the café. We’re not sure if it’s the magic of the stone water fountain or the influence of the greenery; either way, the zen ambience blocks out all the noise.

The menu is filled with wholesome basics such as smoothie bowls, hot breakfast options (both vegan and non-vegan friendly), light meals, and lip-smacking but healthy sweet treats, as well as a long list of plant-based offerings.

Pro tip: The Cosmic Cacao smoothie bowl is a must-order: A burst of flavour, a creamy consistency and a completely Instagram-worthy indulgence.

If you’re looking for something to satisfy your sweet tooth, the vegan and gluten-free choc-chip flapjacks are the ultimate go-to for a delicious guilt-free treat.

For those preferring to sip on their smoothies, Kanéla Café has four of the five smoothie bowl options in a 500ml form.

Super fresh and active ingredients are only the start of the story. A fresh cuppa from Kanéla Café is made from coffee grown in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and processed and roasted by a family-owned business in Uganda.

Tea lovers can delight in knowing that the tea menu houses the classics – Rooibos, green and English teas – as well as a range of speciality teas, from matcha to ginseng oolong and more.

If the setting and food haven’t already sealed the deal, perhaps this will: Not only can you purchase some cool Kanéla apparel while you’re there, you can also rest assured that Kanéla Café is very much a family-friendly spot, and that includes the furry members too.
