Apple pie recipe

This apple pie recipe is absolutely perfect! We love serving it as a tea time treat or as a dessert after dinner with loved ones. Serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Apple pie

Serves: 1 pie
Cooking Time: 2 hrs 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 4 large free-range eggs
  • 400g (2 cups) white sugar
  • 45ml (3 tbsp) butter, melted
  • 125ml (½ cup) full-cream milk
  • salt and ground white pepper, to taste
  • 120g (1 cup) cake flour
  • 3 Granny Smith apples
  • Sauce

  • 1 x 410g tin Ideal Milk
  • 190ml (¾ cup) sugar
  • seeds of 1 vanilla pod
  • 2,5ml (½ tsp) cinnamon

Instructions

1

Preheat the oven to 180°C.

2

Mix together the eggs and sugar. Add the butter, milk and seasoning.

3

Sift the flour 3 times and, using a wooden spoon, stir little by little into the sugar mixture. Put the batter into a greased bowl.

4

Cut the apples into discs, leaving the skin on but removing the seeds. Press the apples into the batter until the batter is full of apples.

5

Bake in the oven at 180°C for 30 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 150°C and bake until the pie is cooked in the middle, about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

6

For the sauce, place the ingredients in a saucepan and warm through.

7

After removing the tart from the oven, pour over the sauce and serve hot.
