• This homemade hazelnut spread hits all the right notes with just five wholesome ingredients. Roasted hazelnuts blend into a nutty paste before being kissed with dark chocolate and a touch of cocoa for that classic flavour you’ll happily spread on thick onto your morning pancakes or tea-time toasts (or snack on straight from the jar). It’s easy to make and is infinitely more satisfying than store-bought versions.

    DIY Hazelnut Spread

Serves: Makes about 4 cups of hazelnut spread
Prep Time: 40 minutes Cooking Time: 10 minutes

    Ingredients

    • 3 ½ cups raw hazelnuts
    • 1 tsp vanilla essence
    • 1 tsp sea salt flakes
    • 150 dark chocolate, melted
    • 1 tbsp cocoa powder

    Instructions

    1

Place hazelnuts on a baking tray, roast at 180°C for 10 min until fragrant and lightly toasted.

    2

Enclose cooled roasted hazelnuts in a cloth and shake well to remove as much of the skins as possible.

    3

Transfer hazelnuts to a blender and blend for about 10 minutes until a thick paste forms. Scrape down the inside of the blender often to help the process.

    4

Add vanilla, salt, melted chocolate and cocoa powder, blend for another minute until smooth and combined.

    5

Enjoy on some fresh toasted bread.

    Notes

To DIY this Hazelnut spread even more, add more melted chocolate for a more intense chocolate flavour, or roast the hazelnuts for longer to get a toastier flavour. Whether you serve it on some bread or by the spoonful, we just hope you like it!
